CARIFTA 2022: St Lucia’s Tristan Dorville bags first position in 50m Butterfly

St Lucia: Tristan Dorville won the gold medal in the 50-metre butterfly at CARIFTA Swim Champs. The event has been organised in Barbados.

The champ was congratulated by Kenson Casimir, who is a St Lucian politician and Minister for Youth Development and Sports. While congratulating the athlete, the minister stated, “St Lucia’s Tristan Dorville wins GOLD in 50m Butterfly at CARIFTA Swim Champs in Barbados. Congrats, Tristan!!”

Earlier, on April 17, Turks and Caicos Islands’ Jayden Davis bagged the first position at the CARIFTA Swimming Championships 2022 in Barbados and acquired the first-ever gold medal in the 100-metre butterfly race. Not only for Davis, but this is also the first-ever TCI’s gold medal in boys 11-12 100m butterfly.

Davis was set to compete in the 200-metre freestyle and 50-metre butterfly swims following the win.

The CARIFTA Aquatics Championships are annual, age-group aquatics championships played in the Caribbean Region. The swimming member has been held since 1985. This event is similar to the origin of the track & field/athletics event: the CARIFTA Games. The event is held under the sponsorship of the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees (CANOC).

The 34th edition of the aquatics championships was held in April 2019 in Bridgetown, Barbados. During the last edition, the tournament’s top team was “The Bahamas”.

The competition was not organised in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
