Barry Augustin shot dead near Governor General’s residence in Castries, Saint Lucia

Castries, Saint Lucia: 36-year-old Barry Augustin, resident of La Toc, Castries, was shot dead just outside the official residence of the Governor General on Sunday. It is to be noted that this incident marks the 10th homicide on the island this year.  

The tranquil neighbourhood of La Toc, Castries, Saint Lucia was shattered by the sound of gunshots. The discovery of the body was made by the security personnel at the Governor General’s residence during a routine perimeter check. 

Moreover, the victim, Barry Augustin’s uncle, expressed grief over the incident and stated that he had lost spoken to him on Saturday evening. He added that Barry Augustin was not known to be involved in any kind of criminal activity. 

The uncle of Barry Augustin said, “He is not in any gang, so we, the family, are puzzled as to why someone would kill him. Last week, we were talking about staying out of trouble, trying to see how we can make more money for the new year, but honestly, this is a blow to the family.”

It is to be noted that this incident is the second murder in a mere 12-hour span, as another man also died in a fatal shooting that occurred in Marchand, Castries. 

Therefore, the police officials of Saint Lucia are investigating the matter thoroughly to get the culprits punished to the fullest extent of the law. 

Various community members took to their social media accounts to express their views on the matter and extend condolences to the deceased’s family and friends.

One person with a Facebook account, Brad Daniel, commented, “The residents that found the body and called the police with security personnel. Why is it when all the shots were firing at 2 am in the morning, it had to take the sun to come up for people to see him, and where was the personnel.”

Another person with a Facebook handle commented the following: “I understand, but St Lucia is not safe anymore. I used to walk the same way at 1 am until I got a car. But people have to understand St Lucia is full of murderers just roaming around the streets. Protect yourself first; at 10 pm, you should be inside already.”
