Saint Lucia Police arrests eight in joint operation against crime

The Royal Saint Lucia Police Force arrested eight people following a joint operation within the Northern and Central Divisions. It is to be noted that the operation was conducted on Thursday by the police officials from the Criminal Investigations Department, Castries, Gros Islet Patrol Team, Special Patrol Team and the Bicycle Patrol Unit.

The operation was conducted with the motive to curb the increasing criminal activities and to ensure the safety and security of the nation. The officers of Saint Lucia executed five search warrants.

During the search exercise, the authorities conducted the search in the house in Ferrand Cul De Sac, Castries. While conducting the search, the officials found one pistol and eight rounds of .45 calibre ammunition, resulting in the apprehension of two individuals for the offence of possessing a firearm and ammunition.

Along with that, a marijuana plantation was also discovered within 100 yards of the residence. As a result, 800 marijuana plants were destroyed.

Moreover, two Saint Lucians were arrested for harbouring an illegal immigrant. Notably, a search was conducted in the house in Dugard, Micoud, resulting in the discovery of one illegal immigrant. Also a foreign national was also apprehended for the offence of disembarking without the consent of an immigration officer.

The authorities arrested three illegal immigrants while conducting the search in an establishment in the south of the island. One resident of Jamaica was apprehended as he failed to renew his permit before or on the date of expiry. Meanwhile, two nations of Colombia were arrested for illegal entry as they disembarked without the consent of an immigration officer.

The officers of Saint Lucia swiftly concluded the exercise by deploying several police officers to various crime hotspots of Vieux-Fort.
