Bridgetown, Barbados: A massive avalanche victory for Barbados Labour Party, as it again engraves history by winning through an overwhelming margin, once again making Mia Amor Mottley as island’s Prime Minister for the tenure of next five years. BLP candidates captured all the 30 seats.

This is the second consecutive win for PM Mottley. Thousands of Barbadians came out of their homes to vote and choose their new Prime Minister for the first time since the island became Republic, removing Queen as its head of the state.

On Wednesday, the general elections took place under stringent COVID-19 protocols and measures to ensure safer and fair voting in Barbados, where around 108 candidates from seven different political parties competed in the race. The polling stations were shut at around 6 pm, and the counting commenced at around 9:30 pm.

Since the beginning of the vote-counting, BLP has been in the lead, and the results remained one-sided.

The island’s population was quite a in shock when PM Mia Amor Mottley announced snap elections, noting that she did not want Barbados to get into the new year by being a divided nation.

Ground reports earlier showed that the competition for the position of Barbados prime minister was clearly between BLP and DLP, Democratic Labour Party.

General elections of 2018:

BLP, led by Mia Amor Mottley, registered a remarkable win, also in the previous general elections of 2018, which were conducted on May 24. BLP had a landslide victory by taking over all the 30 seats in the House of Assembly, making history as Mottley became the first-ever female Prime Minister of Barbados.

Also, for the first time, Barbadians showed terrific support to just one party, and made them win all the House assembly seats.
