Barbados celebrates 40th edition of Run Barbados Marathon

Barbados kicked off the 40th edition of the Run Barbados Marathon on Friday at the historic Garrison Savannah at 8 pm, promising three days filled with fitness, excitement and a vibrant community spirit.

Bridgetown, Barbados: Barbados kicked off the 40th edition of the Run Barbados Marathon on Friday at the historic Garrison Savannah at 8 pm.

The event ensures fitness, excitement and a vibrant community spirit for the three days. The jamboree was embarked on December 8 with a grand comeback of PWC Fun Mile.

The event is just not about the competition as this festivity features the all-inclusive celebration of joy and fitness of the athletes.

During the event, participants were encouraged to participate in the glow-themed race in costumes with their crew, family, schoolmate, friends and colleagues.

Interestingly, the Barbados Turf Club will offer the Fun Mile as the penultimate race as a special gift to the horse lovers during the night of racing event.

The Sports Manager at Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc., Kamal Springer, showed an enthusiasm for the Fun Mile’s return as Run Barbados Race Weekend is a celebration of four decades.

This year the Barbados Run features a celebration of four decades while fostering the spirit of community, passion and fitness.

The Fun Mile makes its thrilling return as an added layer of fun, joy and inclusivity to the event.

Schedule of Festivities

Following a festival Friday, the competition took place on December 9 and will continue on Sunday along the scenic East Coast of Barbados.

The athletes lead runners at Barclay’s Park in St Andrew while highlighting the beautiful landmark of the island nation.

Saturday, December 9

The day hosted a family picnic in Barclay’s Park, started with revitalized warm-up sessions by a famous fitness instructor. The participants of the race were accompanied by food vendors and live performances by local artists such as Saddis and Leadpipe.

Sunday, December 10

The final race with the Joe’s River 5k Walk, Sand Dunes Half Marathon and Farley Hill Marathon is going to be held today. Notably, the main highlight of the event is a wellness session and Bajan Breakfast, which will add a touch of freshness to the celebration.

Additionally, the winners will be awarded by the challenger medals which will uplift their participation in multiple events.

To encourage the more participation, the challenges span from the Gold Challenge, which includes Casuarina 10k, Fun Mile, and Farley Marathon, to the Bronze Challenge, which consists of the Sleeping Giant 5k, Sand Dunes Half Marathon, and Fun Mile.

Barbados anticipates to celebrate the fitness milestone as it is a testament to the long-standing sense of community and camaraderie that has expound this event, based on four outstanding decades.
