The Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, Gaston Browne announced to invest million dollars in order to deal with a recent upsurge in violent crime in the country. He reiterated his commitment to make all the efforts to crime prevention and eradication in the twin island nation.
Notably, Prime Minister Gaston Browne addressed the nation on Tuesday, 20th August 2024 and emphasised on the surge in crime and violence in recent times. During his address, the leader of the nation pledged that his administration will work all-day night in order to make Antigua and Barbuda, a peaceful and prosperous nation.
PM Gaston Browne noted that his administration will invest several million dollars in order to acquire additional assets, including two vessels to improve maritime surveillance of the porous maritime borders, that is proliferated with bays and quays, facilitating the smuggling of contraband including arms and ammunitions.
He further asserted that they will also acquire ten additional surveillance drones with a vision to enhance law enforcement crime-fighting capabilities. He also focused on installing additional cameras on the streets with superior technology to improve surveillance.
While shedding light on addressing the surge in robbery cases, PM Browne stated that they will acquire more vehicles for the police force equipped with radios to facilitate a rapid response to incidents of crime and violence, in particular robberies.
The Prime Minister urged all the residents to stand united in protecting the people from predators who threaten the peace and security in the community.
Moreover, Prime Minister Gaston Browne also acknowledged the police force for always serving as the guardians of the people against crime and lawlessness. He stated that they put their lives at risk by standing up to the criminals who terrorize their communities.
He also recognized the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force who have stepped up to assist the police with patrols in order to secure the homes and businesses, ensuring safety of the entire country. He also emphasised on other security forces such as ONDCP and stated that their security force stands as a barrier against those who seek to destabilize the country and disrupt their way of life.
The leader of the nation ensured to act with all due care and caution and stated that their contribution is invaluable. He stated that they are in a mission to protect all the citizens of the country from the criminal behaviours and unlawful activities. He stated that the government of Antigua and Barbuda remains entirely focused and committed towards ensuring the safety and security of every citizen and resident.
