5 Jamaicans shot during New year eves’ salute
During the new year salute, around five individuals sustained injuries on Saturday morning in separate incidents.

Kingston, Jamaica: During the new year salute, around five individuals sustained injuries on Saturday morning in separate incidents. The incidents took place in the St Catherine North and St Andrew South police divisions.
The first incident occurred at around 12:07 am. As per the police reports, a man was sitting at his gate on Oxford Street in Spanish Town, St Catherine, when he heard loud explosions.
Shortly after, he felt a burning sensation in his back, realising that he had been shot.
Meanwhile, a woman was at her home in bed when she felt like she was being hurt in her left knee. After which, she realised that she had been shot.
Both the injured were immediately taken to the hospital facilities, where they were being treated.
The second incident took place at around 2:30 am on Nelson Road, St Andrew, where a child was injured. The reports note that their screams were heard coming from the child’s room following several explosions.
After the child’s relatives checked him, they saw that the child was shot in his hand. The ceiling contained a hole. The child was immediately taken to the hospital, where he was admitted.
Same time, a resident of St John’s Road in the parish was at home when several explosions were listened. The old woman was asleep and felt a burning sensation, realising that she had been shot. She is at present being treated in the hospital.
None of the individuals died. While the police authorities made an appeal to the general public to provide information regarding these types of incidents or any other criminal activities at the 311 or the 119 emergency number.
