Trinidad and Tobago: The Concacaf Women’s Championship qualification tournament has been happening in the Lenora, Guyana. The Trinidad and Tobago women’s senior footballers secured a 2-0 victory against Dominica on Sunday.
It was Trinidad and Tobago’s second win in the tournament, following a win in their opening match on the group with a 2-1 victory over Nicaragua at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo, on Thursday in sweltering conditions.
In the group, the Trinidad and Tobago team ranks second, behind Guyana.
According to the schedule, only the top team in the five-team group will advance to the following 2023 FIFA World Cup qualification phase. Reportedly, the World Cup will be organised in Australia and New Zealand.
On Sunday, it was a humid atmosphere at the National Track and Field Facility as the rain was poured prior to the match.
Trinidad and Tobago women team were into the attacking mode since the opening whistle blow. The TT team tried their first goal in the tenth minute.
In the 17th minute, TT’s Dennecia Prince tried to run into a cross from the right but failed to find the target. On one side, TT was on the counter-attack while Dominica remained at the back foot during the majority of the first half.
The first goal was secured in the 31st minute by Trinidad and Tobago’s James. The scoreboard read 1-0. During the match against Nicaragua, James scored the opening goal for the team.
Trinidad and Tobago maintained the lead till halftime. Multiple substitutes were made till the second half, but the match was in the pockets of Trinidad and Tobago.
In the end, the scoreboard was at 2-0; still, the country tried to add to their tally. However, Alianne George brightly sparked for Dominica and caused some troubles for TT on the left side.
