West Indies vs India: Windies Women in top form for clash

Following the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, the West Indies Women are all set to face off against India at their home soil for white ball cricket.

The last time both the teams had an encounter in India was in 2016 when West Indies won the T20Is with 3-0. Meanwhile, India claimed the ODI series with 3-0 points.

Notably, West Indies will tour India for a multi-format series in December 2024, competing in three T20 Internationals and three One-Day Internationals.

This series is a significant opportunity for the team to compete against one of cricket’s leading nations as well as positioning them strongly in the ultimate ICC Women’s Championship. ​ 

West Indies vs India (T20Is schedule)

 The T20I series between West Indies Women and India Women will start at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on 15 December. These series will continue till 19th December, and all the games have been scheduled to take place at the same stadium.

  •         1st T20I: 15th December, 2024
  •         2nd T20I: 17th December, 2024
  •         3rd T20I: 19th December, 2024

West Indies vs India (ODIs schedule)

The T20Is series will be followed by the ODI series at the Vadodara International Cricket Stadium in Vadodara from 22nd December to 27th December, 2024. This ODI segment will play a significant role for the team to position themselves at the better stage in the ICC Women’s Championship. ​

  •         3rd ODI: 27th December, 2024

Hayley Matthews to lead West Indies

Shedding light on Hayley Matthews, the Windies Cricket management appreciated her for her performance in the ongoing Women’s Big Bash League.

They added that the squad under the leadership of captain Hayley Matthews, presents a perfect combination of experienced players and emerging talent. 

The Windies Cricket Management also highlighted about Stafanie Taylor’s unavailability from the series and said that she is currently rehabilitating from an injury sustained and will be absent from this tour to India.

15-member squad to represent West Indies

The Windies Cricket Management have announced a 15-member squad that will represent West Indies against India. The players selected by the management includes,

Head Coach, Shane Deitz on West Indies vs India

Sharing his views on the upcoming series, the Head Coach, Shane Deitz expressed his confidence on the members selected by them. He added that they are looking forward to play against higher-ranked opposition team, India.

Deitz added that they want to take the good momentum that they gained at the T20 World Cup into this series. He further shared his views on the significant improvements witnessed among players.

The Head Coach noted that they have seen several improvements in all areas but still they have a long way to go. He mentioned about the consistency of high-level performances and aimed at continuing to keep working towards it.

He said that competing at these six matches against one of the best teams in the world is a great opportunity for their players to showcase their skills, talent, abilities and techniques on an international platform.

The Coach further stated that they are aiming to get more Windies girls involved with franchise cricket. Shedding light on IPL, he added that they are looking forward towards India series so that the Windies ladies can make their names in front of Indians, aiming to open several opportunities in the future.
