Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago: US Embassy Trinidad and Tobago has recently shared update about Anaadi Pooran, Fulbright Scholar, Trinidad and Tobago (2022) – MS in Sustainability Science at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

According to the social media post by the Embassy, Pooran stated, “My Fulbright experience in the USA has been life-changing academically and culturally. I participated in several seasonal activities, including ice skating, camping in New Hampshire, hiking Mt Monadnoc, tapping maple trees to make maple syrup, and attending historical re-enactments.”

She added, “With my passion for food systems, food was one of the highlights of my fellowship. I tasted hot cider for the first time and foraged for wild raspberries and mulberries. I had vegan sushi in New York and fresh seasonal organic vegetables, including every colour carrot you could imagine from the campus farm.”

The social media post read that throughout her master’s program, she developed the confidence to actively participate in class discussions and school events.

“I also had the opportunity to meet sustainability professionals from around the world at the UN Sustainable Solutions Winter School, and career seminars hosted by my program aided in my internship at the Nature Conservancy’s New York Chapter,” she mentioned.

Further, she outlined, “Overall, the Fulbright program has shaped my future career path. I am very grateful for the opportunity and look forward to utilizing the skills and knowledge that I learned to serve Trinidad and Tobago. The world is experiencing several social, environmental, and economic challenges, and I am grateful to be a changemaker at the intersection of these issues.”
