Bridgetown: The Barbados Meteorological Services (BMS) shared that the trough system will continue to affect the island on Friday. Due to such conditions, forecasters announced Marine and haze advisory.
The BMS officials have reported a plume of Saharan dust haze that has already begun to affect the island nation and its marine area and it is expected that these conditions will increase in concentrations over the weekend.
The reports further mentioned that due to such weather conditions, the skies are expected to appear slightly yellowish during the day. This dust can pose a great challenge to elderly adults and children due to low visibility around the marine area and to a lesser extent.
Noting this, the officials from the BMS shared some measures and the people are strictly advised to practice the following methods to avoid any problem.
- The marine users staying near to the shore, especially if GPS is not in use on vessels are suggested to implement the measure.
- The persons suffering from any respiratory conditions such as sinuses or asthma are advised to avoid getting out of their homes due to Saharan dust as it will create problems for them.
- Noting this, the individual should immediately seek medical treatment/ advice if it comes across as difficulty in breathing.
- The people are urged to monitor the BMS, DEM and GIS websites, portals, along with their social media to stay updated.
BMS asked the sea-bathers and swimmers to only venture into the water by using life-guards. The officials of BMS are working continuously to spread awareness of the coming Hurricane season and urged the residents to be prepared for forthcoming active hurricane months.
Moreover, the people of Barbados may experience a mix of sunshine and clouds with the occasional brief scattered light showers, particularly during the morning.
The winds are forecasted to remain gentle easterly to east-south-easterly breeze from 20 to 30 km/hour, which is equal to 12 to 19 mph.
