Trinidad & Tobago: Courier robbery suspect apprehended in Central Division crackdown

Trinidad & Tobago: The police in the Central Division followed leads that led them to arrest the main suspect in a series of six courier robberies targeting online stores and couriers.

Between February and August 2024 several firms found their delivery personnel robbed in the Freeport district. In these thefts, several internet-based companies were targeted, and the various lost packages comprised of merchandise and product, as well as significant amounts of cash and valuable items.

Investigations related to the series of robberies revealed that the method and approach of the robberies were similar, and they even gave a specific telephone number that was being used to place the orders.

For the targeted operation, officers from Freeport Criminal Investigations Department and the Central Division Gang Unit executed the detainment on Monday, August 12, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM. Most of the operation was conducted in Beaucarro Road area of Freeport and they arrested a man believed to be of age 21 years, and a part of the robbery gang.

The police were able to confiscate several items from the suspect’s possession, which they were able to link to the robberies being probed. The seized commodities include drugs and other substances, the kind of which has not been disclosed in detail yet, but their recovery was stated to be a breakthrough in the investigation.

The takedown was orchestrated by SSP Simon, Supt. Glodon, Insps. Estrada and Sylvan and Supt. Harriot of Sergeant rank. They have played a major role in confronting the crime wave, targeting local businesses and protecting the couriers who have become easy prey this year.

The arrest is important progress in the continuing investigations, and the authorities intend to bring justice to the cases connected with these robberies as well. This operation has proved that the Central Division has a commitment of eradicating criminal activities and persons in order to provide security for the commercial and other citizens within the division area.

The Central Division will work further to collect more evidence in the litigation of the said cases to expose the truth and administer justice. This has a way of comforting the community by making them believe that the police forces are trying to curb such criminal incidences and guarding the citizens from the same.
