Antigua and Barbuda: Antigua and Barbuda is all set to host the first ever Best Pepperpot and Fungee Competition on 7th May 2024. It is a part of the Restaurant Week which is being conducted with the support of ‘Eat Like a local’ programme, promises to offer all the food lovers with the best dining spots, making their experiences delicious and memorable. 

This initiative of ‘Eat Like a local’ will play a huge role in celebrating and promoting the local delicacies of the island nation which is prepared by renowned chefs and cooks by using traditional methods and with a unique mix of herbs and spices. 

Pepperpot and Fungee is known as the national dish of Antigua and Barbuda and by conducting such competition, the tourism authority focuses on showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the island nation in a culinary manner. 

For the same, the authorities have also extended an invitation to all the residents of the country to explore the top dining establishments of the country which is recognized for their mastery of this iconic dish for Antigua and Barbuda

The Tourism authority of the island nation is conducting this competition in collaboration with Department of Culture – Antigua and Barbuda, The Antigua & Barbuda Hospitality Training Institute, The Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Transportation and Investment and the Antigua Barbuda Hotels and Tourism Association. 

The tourism authority aims to attract large number of local citizens and travellers to the island nation which will play a significant role in promoting the local flavours and ingredients of the island nation, adding a touch of rich cultural heritage of Antigua and Barbuda. 

The criteria to participate in the Pepperpot and Fungee Competition 

The people can nominate their favourite spot or establishment for the competition, and once they are nominated and accept the challenge, they will have to impress the panel of internationally and nationally recognized chefs and food experts with their Pepperpot and Fungee in a blind-tasting showdown. 

The judgement will be done on the basis of texture, technique, creativity in presentation, and many more. Following that, the judges will select their top four, who will have to face the ultimate test to claim the prestigious and first-ever title of Antigua and Barbuda’s Best Pepperpot and Fungee.
