Trinidad and Tobago: Two suspects arrested for possessing firearms and ammunition

The police officials of Trinidad and Tobago apprehended two people and seized quantities of firearms and ammunitions during an anti-crime exercise which was conducted on Thursday, 7th December 2023.

The police officials of Trinidad and Tobago apprehended two people and seized quantities of firearms and ammunition during an anti-crime exercise conducted on Thursday, 7th December 2023.

The officers of the Intelligence Unit conducted an exercise between 3 pm and 8 pm in the Port of Spain division.

During the exercise, the authorities conducted searches at various places such as:

  • Duncan
  • Tilsbury
  • St. Paul Streets

While conducting the search in the East Dry River district, the officials discovered and seized the following:

  • One AK-47 along with quantities of ammunition
  • An extended magazine and several components

The authorities of Trinidad and Tobago arrested two suspects, a 28-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman respectively, both the residents of Port of Spain.

Notably, both the suspects were arrested in connection with the firearms and ammunition, found by the officers.

Moreover, the officials of the North Central Division Task Force also conducted an exercise between 10 pm on Thursday 7th December 2023 and 2 am on Friday 8th December 2023 in the Tunapuna district.

During the exercise, the officials tried their best to arrest the suspect. However, the man dropped a firearm and made his escape on seeing the officers. Investigations are still ongoing into the matter.

Furthermore, such cases are not new in the nation, as just a day back, the officers of the island nation conducted an Operation Blue Line exercise. During the exercise, the authorities apprehended five suspects and seized two firearms and quantities of ammunition from them.

The officials of the St. James Criminal Investigations Department conducted an exercise between 2 am and 4:30 am, and they arrested two suspects in Cocorite.

It is to be noted that both suspects were arrested for the possession of 14 rounds of ammunition.

Another exercise was conducted in the North Eastern division by the officials of Blanchisseuse Police Station. The police officers were on mobile patrol when they tried to arrest a male suspect.

However, the man dropped a bag he was carrying and ran off after seeing the officials.

Subsequently, the authorities conducted the search of the bag, resulting in:

  • One pistol loaded with 10 rounds of ammunition.
  • A revolver loaded with 5 rounds of ammunition.

Meanwhile, the Task Force officers of the South Western Division intercepted a blue Suzuki Swift motor vehicle while conducting a search of the vehicle.

Upon searching, the authorities discovered one round of ammunition, leading to the arrest of three male occupants sitting in the car.
