Port of Spain: Trinidad and Tobago will compete in the Winter Olympic Games after a long time period of 20 years. The Olympic games will commence from Friday, February 4, 2022, to Sunday, February 20, 2022. The Olympic games 2022 will take place in Beijing and venues near neighbouring towns of Yanqing and Chongli in the People’s Republic of China.
The three athletes who would be representing the island at the international multi-sports event are Pilot – Axel Brown, Breakman – Andre Marcano and Alternate – Mikel Thomas. Chef de Mission Lovie Santana and Covid-19 Liaison Officer Rheeza Grant and Thomas Harris and Lewis Prentice as support staff will also join the team of Trinidad and Tobago.
Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley wishing good luck to the team, wrote on his Facebook page, “Trinidad & Tobago are headed to the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games. We are very happy to announce that our 2-man team has now officially qualified for the Olympics”.
“The fledgling team have moved mountains in such a short amount of time to make this happen. But have repeatedly proven they belong with the best in the world, on the biggest stage. Well done to the entire team, which doesn’t stop at just the athletes and includes every single person that has impacted the journey along the way. Whether that’s an athlete, coach, lawyer, or fan”.
Moreover, the citizens of the island also wished luck to the team, stating that they are proud of them and hoping that the flag of Trinidad and Tobago would rise high. The 2022 Winter Olympics would be the first winter Olympics that are to take place in China. A total of 109 events over 15 disciplines in seven sports will be organised during2022 Winter Olympics, witnessing an increase of 7 events as compared to the year 2018.
