Trinidad and Tobago: Police are currently investigating the murder of 33-year-old Nickel Morris, who lived at St Ann’s Road, St Ann’s, who was shot during a brazen attack on a Sunday morning as he bought doubles.
The harrowing murder was captured on several CCTV cameras in the vicinity and shared on social media, prompting outrage and concern from the public. Police said the shooting took place at about 8 am at the corner of Sydenham Avenue and St Ann’s Main Road.
A silver-grey wagon pulled up alongside the business and eyewitnesses and security cameras captured images of two gunmen exiting the vehicle before opening fire on Morris. But the presence of other people around did not seem to ruffle the gunmen.
Immediately after open firing the mentioned victim, the assaulters piled up in their car and drove off at breakneck speed, whereas Morris lay there with least lucky to be alive and surrounded by passers-by who offered him help. Other than that, there were no injuries reported.
As soon as the shooting stopped, the police were called, and from the Port of Spain division, Inspector Jerry took up the lead of the incident, with a team of officers. The police arrived promptly, but Morris was already dead.
At the scene, the police recovered but are yet to know the motive for killing the man. Witnesses and social media commentators have described the daylight attack as one of the most “brazen” and “shocking” attacks in the city.
The killing has increased apprehensions over public safety, emboldening criminal elements within that area. Inspector Jerry and his team urge whoever has any information on the said incident or even the suspects to come forward.
Police requested the citizens to be more cautious and report any suspicious activities that they notice in and around the region.
