Thea Lafond and Dennick Luke announced as Flag Bearers for Paris Olympics 2024
The Dominica Olympic Committee announced the World Women’s Triple Jump Champion Thea Lafond and 800-meter Dennick Luke as the proud flag bearers to lead the Dominica delegation at the 2024 Summer Paris Olympic Games.

Roseau, Dominica: The Dominica Olympic Committee announced the World Women’s Triple Jump Champion Thea Lafond and 800-meter Dennick Luke as the proud flag bearers to lead the Dominica delegation at the 2024 Summer Paris Olympic Games.
Notably, the opening ceremony will take place on Friday, 26th July 2024 with a parade, starting at 7:30 pm in France and 1:30 pm, the Eastern Caribbean Time. The 2024 Olympic Games will run from 26th July to 11th August 2024 with a few of the competitions already started on 24th July.
Thea Lafond Gadson who hails from Mahaut and is based in the USA will compete in the Olympics 2024 in the female Triple Jump. She is also known as the first Indoor World Champion of Dominica and has qualified for two World Championships and two World Indoor Champions.
On the other hand, Dennick Luke who hails from Portsmouth is currently completing his education from Jamaica and has secured a universality placement in the discipline of 800m. The flag bearers will lead the other two participants and the team officials who will head to Paris for Olympics 2024. The swimmers who will be competing in the Olympics include, Warren Lawrence and Jasmine Schofield. The team officials include, Chef de Mission, Woodrow Lawrence; Team Leader, Brenda Wiliams; Athletics Coach, Aaron Gadson; Swimming Coach, Gino Deflorian; Francilia Agar Schofield, Press Attaché, Garvin Richards and Physiotherapist, Kala Flagg.
Moreover, it is for the first time in the history of the Olympic Summer Games that the opening ceremony will not take place in a stadium but along the Seine River. The parade of the athletes will be conducted on the Seine with boats for each national delegation.
These boats will be equipped with cameras so that all the people of the world sitting in their homes can enjoy the experience of watching their favourite athletes representing their country on TV or online platforms. The parade will come to the end of its 6-kilometre route in front of the Trocadéro, where other elements of Olympic protocol and final shows will take place.
Several games will be held on the opening day including, Rugby Sevens, Football, Handball, shooting and others. Notably, the 10,500 athletes will cross through Paris for the overall playing field for the game in the next 16 days.
