Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago: The officers of the South Western Division Task Force (SWDTF) conducted a Safe Street Operation on Friday, which led to a recovery of GLOCK 19 and ammunition.

According to police reports, the investigating officers received intelligence information about a firearm in Los Iros Junction. The ranks responded to the matter and proceeded towards the area.

Upon arriving at Los Iros, they began their search for an unfenced scrap yard. During a search, they found a GLOCK 19 and 17 rounds of 9 mm ammunition on the top of some steep pipes.

The Safe Street Operation was conducted between the hours of 4 am and 8am and was coordinated by Senior Supt Remy, Asp Simon, Inspector Prescott and supervised by Sgt Leotaud among a group of other officers from the SWDTF.

WPC Vesprey took the possession of the finding. The firearm and ammunition were taken to the Fyzabad Police Station for further investigations. The authorities urged general public with any information to come forward and assist them in their investigations.

Notably, the news was shared on the official social media handle (Facebook) of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Services.

However, this is not the first time that police have recovered such firearms and ammunitions as just few days ago, the task force officers executed an anti-crime exercise in the North Central Divisions of the Claxton Bay.

While operating in the area, they discovered a black Glock firearm loaded with a magazine containing 17 rounds of ammunition. They began their further investigations and arrested and charged one male suspect in connection to the findings.

The police of Trinidad and Tobago are working tirelessly to combat the issues of crime in their country. Prime Minister Keith Rowley called for an emergency and urged zero tolerance for criminal activities in the country.

With the increasing rate of crime, the people are now asking the authorities to take serious actions and implement strict laws for such stances of crimes. They are also suggested to increase their border security to expel the issue of illegal importing or exporting of weapons.
