The winner of the European Championship in Munich Grondin has won the scratch at the world championships in October 2021 and bagged bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics. The 21-year-old cyclist was the best performer and bagged the first position at the last sprint of the last event. He begun the last race confident with six points from the podium and 14 points from first place and crossed the line.
The finishing line was crossed by Dutchman following Grondin. He crossed the line without knowing that he has won.
Donavan Grondin took his social media to express pleasure and stated that it was an amazing race as the last time he looked at the points screen, he was at third position and he increased his pace as he wanted gold and was not thinking for the silver or bronze.
He added, “European Omnium Champion. That was an amazing points race. The last time I looked at the points screen, I was 3rd, so I was thinking of going for the silver or bronze. Steven Henry told me to score Simone Consonni, and I gave it my all in the last sprint. When I saw that I had won I couldn’t believe it. Thank you all for your support and congratulations. See you tomorrow for Madison.”
