St Kitts and Nevis: To mark World Engineer’s Day globally on March 4, 2022, St Kitts Electricity Company Limited hosted various activities.
The activities commenced on March 2, 2022, with a special one-hour edition of Power Talk, the company’s bi-weekly radio program, discussing the theme World Engineer’s Day: Build Back Wiser– Engineering the future. This extended edition of Power Talk featured Jonathan Kelly, SKELEC’s Engineering Manager; Keane Mark, SKELEC’s Maintenance Engineer; Xia-Xiang Claxton, Quality Engineer, Surrey Paving; and Tonya Bartlette, Manager, Nevis Water Services Department, the government of St Kitts and Nevis informed.
The department continued its activities with a school tour on March 3 and 4. The engineering department visited five high schools of the region, including Saddler’s Secondary School, Basseterre High School, Cayon High School and Verchilds High School.
While visiting the school, the members of the department had an interaction session with the students and discussed the role of engineers, educational journey and the benefits of becoming an engineer. The engineers further motivated the students to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
The electricity department stated, “The Electricity Company Ltd. would like to use this opportunity to thank all of its engineers for their contribution to the success of the company.”
World Engineers Day or the WED is a UNESCO-affiliated day, declared in the year 2019. The day focuses on celebrating the engineers and the contribution of the engineers for a better and sustainable world. The day is celebrated every year, globally, on March 4, 2022.
