St Kitts and Nevis: Social Development Ministry announces amendments to Poverty Alleviation Programme

St Kitts and Nevis: The Government of the twin-island Federation of St Kitts and Nevis has announced amendments to the Poverty Alleviation Programme in collaboration with the Social Development and Gender Affairs Ministry. As per the official update, the Ministry has announced the update on the application process of the programme.
As per the latest update, at least 9,094 applications were completed and reviewed, verified and processed. The reviewing procedure will include the eligibility criteria of the household earning less than XCD$ 3,000 per month.
It further informed that on the basis of the self-reported earnings, around 8,985 applicants had been accepted. Following the selection, the applications will be verified according to the employment and income status of eligible applicants. This verification will be done with the help of the Social Security Board.
The following priority households will receive payment from the Poverty Alleviation Programme, as per the approval by the Cabinet of St Kitts and Nevis.
- Household service headed by minor children
- Household service headed by seniors, persons the age of 62 years and older
- Households headed by persons with disabilities
According to the update from the Ministry, the payment cycle for the households headed by seniors and persons with disabilities is from February 6, 2023 (Monday). All future payments to additional categories of beneficiaries will be made by the last working day of each month, inclusive of February 2023.
The application details of eligible applicants to complete the review process for payment of additional persons will be verified by the Department of Community Development by February 28 2023. Information on the status of all submitted applications will be updated through the programme application portal in the upcoming weeks.
