Prime Minister of the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis and the Minister of Health recently presented remarks at the inaugural ceremony of the East Basseterre Elderly Daycare at the Newtown Community Centre.

                                                    Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister of the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis and the Minister of Health recently presented remarks at the inaugural ceremony of the East Basseterre Elderly Daycare at the Newtown Community Centre.
Prime Minister Dr Terrance Drew attended the ceremony along with Minister of Ageing – Isalean Phillip and Deputy Prime Minister and representative of East Basseterre – Dr Geoffrey Hanley. While expressing his pleasure, Deputy Prime Minister Hanley took it to social media and quoted, “As per Wagner “, Don’t let ageing get you down; it’s too hard to get back up.”

The East Basseterre Elderly Daycare was officially opened on the morning of March 20, 2023 (Monday) at the Newtown Community Centre, according to the update by the Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Ageing and Disabilities.
As per the update, this initiative is an opportunity for seniors and elderly persons to come together and be positively engaged on a weekly basis. Furthermore, the ministry stated that other elderly daycares are expected to be open at the St Peter’s and St Paul’s Community Centres, respectively.
The Ministry of Youth, Empowerment, Ageing and Disabilities has been praised by many for their fruitful initiatives carried out for the growth and development of the public of the nation. While praising the ministry for the excellent work, one of the social media users noted, “Great initiative. My mom Rosie would’ve surely enjoyed attending,” while another outlined, “The Ministry is working on right and progressive decisions.”
Following the opening ceremony, a kite-making activity hosted by Javonne Pemberton Kite Making was held. The ministry has informed that our seniors were engaged in kite making at the East Basseterre Elderly Daycare today, March 20, at the Newtown Community Centre with Javonne Pemberton Kite Making.
During the activity, the elderly people were engaged in making kites under proper guidance.
