St Kitts and Nevis: The Health Ministry, in collaboration with TaiwanICDF, has started Capacity Building Project for the Prevention as well as Control of Metabolic Chronic Diseases.

The primary focus of the project will be to project assistance in strengthening the prevention and control system for chronic diseases caused by metabolic syndrome. The project will also stress on raising awareness about chronic metabolic conditions.

“This project will assist in strengthening the prevention and control system for chronic diseases caused by metabolic syndrome. One of the project’s outputs is to improve people’s awareness of their own metabolic chronic conditions by providing health screening services,” the government of St Kitts and Nevis informed.

The previous year, the total number of people who were screened under this project was 4,064 and for this year, the health ministry has decided to screen at least 4000 people. Due to the threat of COVID-19 infection, the government has decided to conduct screening with full precautions and have expected that more people will join the health screening.

The government of St Kitts and Nevis outlined, “Last year, 4,064 persons were screened under the Project throughout the Federation. This year, the goal is set at a minimum of 4,000 persons. In light of further relaxing of COVID-19 restrictions, we are absolutely looking forward to having more people joining the health screenings.”

While briefing about the health checklist, the ministry stated, “The health checklist includes – Blood pressure, Blood sugar, BMI calculation – height & weight, Hip-Waist circumference, Kidney function test, and Breast Examination (BSE).

St Kitts and Nevis’ ministry of health further asked the residents to join it at the Independent Square, which is the first step to maintaining good health.
