St Kitts and Nevis: In a political development, post the demise of former Premier of Nevis – Vance Amory, Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris, Deputy Prime Minister Shawn Richards, and Premier of Nevis Mark Brantley postponed the tripartite “State of Team Unity” meeting.

The leaders have stated that the meeting will be now organised on April 6, 2022 (Wednesday).

“Prime Minister Dr Timothy Harris, Deputy PM Shawn Richards and Nevis Premier Mark Brantley have agreed to postpone today’s tripartite “State of Team Unity” meeting until Wednesday, April 6, as a result of the sudden passing of His Excellency Vance Amory,” the government of St Kitts and Nevis informed through a press release.

The decision was taken after the three leaders communicated and decided to postpone the meeting to express grief to Vance Amory.

The press release read, “Due to the sudden passing of His Excellency Vance Amory, former Cabinet colleague and former Premier of Nevis, we communicated with the Prime Minister that it would be appropriate to delay the tripartite meeting of heads of political parties scheduled for today until Wednesday, 2022 as a mark of respect to HE Vance Amory, a founding member of Team Unity.”

On April 2, 2022 (Friday), Vance Amory took his last breath. Former Premier of Nevis was admitted to the hospital in London, United Kingdom, where he died during treatment for cancer.

Amory served the citizens of Nevis as Premier for two terms in the office, between 1992 and 2006 as well as between 2013 and 2017. The leader also served as the Minister of Sports in the Nevis Island Administration (NIA). In 1987, the Concerned Citizens Movement was formed by Amory. He also led his political party for more than a decade and served as Premier of Nevis.
