Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago: A Sangre Grande man charged with murder and also apprehended with Attempting to Pervert the Court of Justice.

A man recognised as TJE BAIRD, age 26, was arrested for the killing of Marvin Matthew Joseph, which occurred on Sunday, October 15, 2023.

Notably, the suspect was not called upon to plea when he was supposed to appear before Magistrate Marueen Baboolal-Gafoor.

He will next be presented in court on January 4, 2024, regarding the charge of striving to pervert the court of justice and on January 15, relative to the charge of murder.

Details of attempted crimes

– Baird was initially charged with venturing to pervert the court of justice by uttering a false document on Thursday, November 2, 2023, following the advice of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Roger Gaspard, SC.

– Later on, the accused was charged with the murder on Sunday, December 3, following the advice received from the DPP.

It is to be noted that the murdered man, Joseph, aged 21 years old, of Sawmill Avenue, Barataria, was last witnessed alive on Sunday, October 15, 2023.

He was seen in CCTV when he was allegedly entering a white Nissan Almera vehicle on the corner of Tragarete Road and Elizabeth Street.

Notably, one male suspect was taken into custody in connection with the incident on October 29 by the officials of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI), Region One.

The investigation of the case is being held under the supervision of W/ASP (Ag.) Bridglal, ASP (Ag.) Lynch, Inspector Jones, Inspector Mongroo and Sgt Ramsumair of HBI, Region One, with Cpl Mitchell of HBI Technical Unit and the Acting Deputy Director along with Sgt Biggart and the team at the Forensics Science Centre.

It is to be added in the remarks of officers that the accused was charged with the offence by WPC Clinton, also of HBI Region One.
