Jamaica: Brutal murder of landlord in St Thomas, couple arrested

Kingston, Jamaica: A few days after a man was brutally killed in St Thomas along the Yallahs main road, the police finally managed to arrest the couple on Thursday. The couple was charged with wounding with intent and conspiracy to commit murder (two counts).

The suspects, recognized as Kemisha Bryan, 43 years old, and DaCosta Bernard, 23 years old, were charged with the murder of their landlord. As per reports, the incident took place on Friday, February 15. 

The police have released their statement that during the investigation, they reported that the couple was residing together at a two-bedroom dwelling structure on rent. It has been noted that Bryan and his landlord had been involved in an issue regarding the matter of rent. 

Their dispute reached such a level that a 43-year-old suspect threatened to kill the landlord several times. Due to such situation the owner of the property threw him out of the house.

According to the Corporate Constabulary Unit (CCU), Bryan is believed to have hired a hitman to murder his landlord, and he also offered him a large sum of money so that he could get ownership of the residence. The report further claimed that his wife Bernard was also aware of the crime.

The investigating officers responded to an anonymous call and arrived at the location where they received information about the landlord’s murder. Upon arrival, they found the body of the victim lying motionless on the ground. 

While examining the body, the officers observed multiple wounds of gunshots on February 15, 2024. They immediately started their investigation, which resulted in the arrest of Bryan and Bernard on Thursday. 

The duo will appear in the St Thomas Parish Court on Monday, March 8, 2024.
