Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister of the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, expressed condolence on the passing of Devorita Weekes, a 91-year-old resident of Wades Garden, in a house fire on August 21, 2023 (Monday).

“Our law enforcement continues its diligent investigations into this incident,” PM Drew assured through social media.

He further said, “At this sombre time, I want to convey my sincerest condolences to the grieving family and friends of the departed. May they find strength and solace during this difficult period.”

A residential building in Wades Garden, St Kitts, caught fire on the night of Monday. According to the preliminary reports, 91 years old Weekes was pronounced deceased at the scene of the incident.

Reportedly, St Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Services were called to the scene to extinguish the blazes.

The details regarding the incident were shared by the Royal Christopher and Nevis Police Force through its official social media page, which read, “The Police responded to a report of a house fire in Wades Garden, St Kitts that was received shortly before 3 am on August 21, 2023. Upon arriving at the scene, a residential building was observed to be ablaze.”

It further stated, “St Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Services (SKNFRS) extinguished the blaze after which, ninety-one (91)-year old Devorita Weekes was discovered inside the house. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.”

As per the update, the Forensic Unit of RSCNPF surveyed the scene, and some of the evidence was also collected.

“The Forensic Unit of the Royal St Christopher and Nevis Police Force (RSCNPF) assessed the scene and collected some items of evidential value,” it stated.

Additionally, it was informed, “The cause of the blaze is currently unknown. An investigation into the incident is ongoing, and the general public will be appropriately updated on its developments. The RSCNPF expresses heartfelt condolences to all who have been negatively impacted by this occurrence.”
