Saint Lucia: Jeremiah Norbert moderates 7th Gathering of the ParlAmericas Open Parliament Network

Jeremiah Norbert, Saint Lucian politician and Deputy Speaker of the Lower House has participated in a high-level panel discussion at the 7th Gathering of the ParlAmericas Open Parliament Network earlier this week.

Castries, Saint Lucia: Jeremiah Norbert, Saint Lucian politician and Deputy Speaker of the Lower House has participated in a high-level panel discussion at the 7th Gathering of the ParlAmericas Open Parliament Network earlier this week. He participated in the meeting as a moderator.

The minister took it to social media and mentioned, “Yesterday, I was honoured of being the moderator of a high-level panel discussion at the 7th Gathering of the ParlAmericas Open Parliament Network, which was held at the National Congress in Santiago De Chile.”

As per the update by Jeremiah Norbert, the theme for the gathering was, “The Future of Democracy in the Digital Era”, and he moderated on the topic, “Towards a regionally secure, just, and inclusive digital future”.

The politician further shed light on the topics discussed during the meeting and also emphasised that critical topics were discussed among the attendees. He mentioned that:

During the discussion, we were able to:

1. Analyse the impact of digital transformation on the democratic system, highlighting both the opportunities and challenges that have emerged in recent years as a conclusion of the emergence of the internet and ICTs, as well as recommendations for addressing them.

2. Raise awareness of the potential of the open parliament paradigm to ensure full and inclusive digital governance when utilised in implementing initiatives.

Furthermore, while concluding the update about the 7th Gathering of the ParlAmericas Open Parliament Network, he expressed gratitude and immense pleasure for being able to represent Saint Lucia and its citizens as well as residents.

The social media post by Norbert noted, “I always welcome the opportunity to make representation on behalf of my people and country and this time was no different. We in Saint Lucia have an opportunity to integrate the digital era into the future of our democracy and I look forward to sharing some of the things which I learnt at this gathering with my colleague Parliamentarians.”
