Roje Stona wins first gold for Jamaica in Paris Olympics 2024, scripted history

Jamaica: Roje Stona registered history as he becomes the first-ever Jamaican athlete to win a gold medal at the discus in 2024 Paris Olympic Games. The athlete made a massive throw of 70m and set a new Olympic record to clinch the gold medal.

He defeated Mykolas Alekna from Lithuania who is considered as the best Olympic competition ever as he secured the silver medal with a throw of 69.97 metres. Meanwhile, the bronze medal was won by Matthew Denny of Australia with a throw of 69.31m, who had previously finished fourth at both Olympics and the World Championship.

It is not only the first Olympic gold medal for Jamaica in the event but also the first gold at Paris Olympics 2024. He was coached by three-time and reigning Olympic shot-put champion, Ryan Crouser. With this win, he becomes the first non-European to claim the Olympic title in men’s discus.

The Prime Minister of Jamaica, Andrew Holness took to his official Facebook account and congratulated the athlete. He stated that “it is a record-breaking gold for the country and congratulations to Roje Stona for registering history.”

The Prime Minister acknowledged his hard work and determination and stated that it is a testament to the unwavering commitment and dedication of the athlete towards his passion that he could able to achieve the first gold medal for the country in Paris Olympics 2024.

He further stated that Stona’s victory has made all the Jamaicans proud and have become a huge source of inspiration for all the athletes worldwide who are working hard to represent their nation on an international platform.

The Minister of Tourism, Edmund Bartlett also extended congratulations to the athlete and called Stona’s victory “a major accomplishment.” He further asserted that the world has not seen a man non-European secure the discus title in the over forty years to win a medal.

But it is a huge achievement for Jamaica as Stona has not only won the medal but also broke the record. He continued to say that the entire Jamaica celebrates Roje for his accomplishment and for making all the countrymen proud.

Following his record-breaking performance, Stona expressed a mix of emotions and shed light on his hard work and determination that propelled him to this victory. He also extended gratitude to all his coaches, family, and teammates for always being there with him as his support system.

The citizens also showered their love and extended congratulations to athlete on this significant victory. “You made Jamaica proud in more ways than one! Thanks for your effort! 1st gold,” wrote another person. One person commented the following “Jamaica Jamaica they couldn’t take our glory we have to shine one way or another congratulations.”
