President of Guyana, Dr. Irfaan Ali, donated a boat, two boat engines, an ultrasound machine, and several treated mosquito nets in Region 10.

Guyana: President of Guyana, Dr. Irfaan Ali, donated a boat, two boat engines, an ultrasound machine, and several treated mosquito nets in Region 10.

The President distributed while on outreach to the Region. He tries to put systems in place to make healthcare and services more accessible to all Guyanese.

As per the Region’s Health Officer Gregory Harris, the two boat engines (40 and 15 horsepower) would be used to enhance people’s lives, mainly in Sub-Region 2.
Patricia Willia Apne commented, “Apnu meet in a terrible state the lumber shipping out every week cheap.”

Harris stated, ” “For years, it has been known that Sub Region Two have not had access to certain diagnostic tests, so we are very grateful,” 

He demonstrated that antenatal mothers, primarily in Sub-Region 2, will now have access to an ultrasound machine. He affirmed to the President that all the donated material would be used to improve healthcare aid delivery and the lives of all the people in the Region.
Dr. Vishwa Mahadeo, Director General of the Ministry of Health, also noted that President Ali gave guidance that healthcare services in the hinterland and riverain areas should not be less convenient than those on the coast.

“Following President Ali’s administration and interest in assuring that there is fair and equal healthcare across the country, systems are being put in place to assure that every pregnant mother will take an ultrasound, will be seen by a doctor, will become dental screening, will have an HIV test, will have all the blood work that is important,” Dr. Mahadeo told.

He supplemented that the 40HP engine would be used by the Medex based in Kalkuni to traverse the riverain fields to service each of the health centers, while the 15HP will be used to service fields in Kwakwani.

Dr. Mahadeo also mentioned that the local Health Officer and Regional Executive Officer had made budgetary allocations to assure that the hospital and health centers in the Region can provide healthcare services for all.
