PM Terrance Drew visits Grenada and extends support following devastating effects of Beryl

Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: Dr Terrance Drew, the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis visited Grenada on Wednesday in order to extend his support and assess the damages caused to the nation by the devastating effects of Hurricane Beryl.

Notably, the Category 4 Hurricane Beryl created huge devastation on the islands of Carriacou, Petite Martinique and St Vincent and the Grenadines which resulted in landfalls, damages to the buildings, falling of tress and many other severe destructions.

In his visit to Grenada, PM Drew was accompanied by other Caribbean leaders including Dr. Roosevelt Skerrit, Prime Minister of Dominica and Philip J Pierre, Prime Minister of Saint Lucia.

During the tour, the delegates made a comprehensive damage assessment in order to evaluate the impact of the Hurricane Beryl on the affected communities and also to coordinate regional support and relief efforts.

PM Terrance Drew expressed his concern for the people of Grenada and the surrounding islands who faced the wrath of Hurricane Beryl. While expressing his concern, the leader stated that this devastation caused is a stark reminder of the vulnerability of their region to natural disasters.

He further asserted that their hearts go out to the families who have lost loved ones and those whose families and livelihoods have been completely destroyed. He also stated that he is always committed to providing immediate and sustained support to help Grenada rebuild and recover from the damages.

Moreover, the Prime Ministers of St Kitts and Nevis, Dominica and Saint Lucia also met with the Prime Minister of Grenada, Dickon Mitchell and exchanged significant dialogues on the measures that can be undertaken by the administration of Grenada in order to avoid such damages or uncertainties in future. They also discussed the most urgent needs and the ways to deliver assistance during such challenging times.

The visit of the leaders to Grenada shed light on the support and their commitment to help the affected countries in their tough times. The governments of the nations will also mobilize resources to help Grenada recover from the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl.

Also, PM Drew especially mentioned climate justice and the need to cut greenhouse gas emissions, which is necessary to save the planet from natural calamities.

“Together, we will rebuild stronger and more resilient communities. The Caribbean stands united in support of Grenada during this tough time,” noted Dr Terrance Drew.
