PM Terrance Drew prioritizes citizen security and energy independence in St Kitts and Nevis

Dr Terrance Drew, the Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, stated the “security and safety of the citizens,” is his primary priority. He referred to the establishment of a Citizen Security Secretariat, a “comprehensive approach” towards the well-being of all the citizens.

While shedding light on the crucial approaches undertaken by the Government of St Kitts and Nevis at the roundtable media engagement, PM Terrance Drew called the Citizen Security Secretariat, a great initiative taken by them towards ensuring the safety and security of all the citizens of the island nation.

The Prime Minister stated that citizen security is a designation that is not just limited to dealing with crime and violence but also encompasses law enforcement.

During the conference, he also shed light on the 90-Day Campaign initiated by the Government against Violence and Crime and stated that this approach is a vital step towards ensuring that every voice is heard and respected while developing a framework that addresses the causes, consequences, and solutions to violence and crime.

He further added that his administration is taking every possible effort in order to curb the increasing crime and violence in the country. And, for the same, he reiterated his commitment to upholding law and order, with citizen security as an essential component to ensure that every citizen and visitor can live and work in a safer and securer environment.

ENERGY INDEPENDENCE

The Prime Minister, Dr Terrance Drew also reaffirmed his commitment towards energy independence and shed light on the significance of renewable energy in transforming the nation for the betterment. He added that harnessing Nevis’ geothermal energy would play a huge role in reducing the dependence of the island nation on external oil.

While shedding light on the energy independence, PM Terrance Drew stated that it would create a fiscal space for the citizens to do anything as the current rate of 60 cents per kilowatt has become a huge burden for the Federation.

He further asserted that if the country manages to reduce energy costs to one-third of the current price then, it would positively impact the economic conditions of St Kitts and Nevis.

COLLABORATIONS WITH INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTIONS

PM Terrance Drew also extended gratitude to Southern University and A&M College for their crucial contribution which has positively resulted in creating a huge development in the education and agriculture sector of the island nation.

The Prime Minister stated that they will continue to collaborate with international institutions and agencies with a vision to foster the growth and development in St Kitts and Nevis.
