PM Terrance Drew outlines aspects of his trip to Taiwan, shares major interactions

St Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister of the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew, participated in a talk show by Ziz Radio on November 13, 2022. During the talk show, PM Drew highlighted the strong relationship between St Kitts and Nevis and the People’s Republic of China (Taiwan).

Prime Minister Terrance Drew stated that it was his first trip as the PM of the nation, and the trip holds high significance, and the country really values this vital relationship. Additionally, PM praised his delegation and stated, “This delegation was put together with the idea of sending a strong and clear and positive message. The delegation really reflected not only to Taiwan but to the world the new thrust of this government.”

PM Drew also mentioned several engagements, meetings and events attended by the delegation of St Kitts and Nevis throughout the Taiwan trip of four to five days. While sharing the highlights of the trip, PM stated, “Highlight was that Taiwan is striving to have gender Equity, similar to St Kitts and Nevis. We had multiple engagements with the president of the nation at closing the reception at the presidential Palace.” He added that the president and her leadership team were also one of the important as of the visit.

The delegation also visited the Taiwan Veterans Medical Center and met with Healthcare professionals. PM then took a moment and praised the host country (Taiwan) for being innovative. He further said, “I’m sending an expert team from Taiwan here to help us with our national health insurance. Taiwan has an excellent national health insurance program, and that program has been very successful for a number of years. We also discussed the new hospital, and Taiwan has agreed to partner with us in the building out of our new hospital.”

PM Dr Drew also shared the discussion about the scholarships for the students at the tertiary level, and the leaders of both countries also discussed the technical side of it so that we can send our people to do a course in refrigeration easy maintenance auto mechanic critical areas that needed to build the country.

He outlined that the delegation also interacted with the issue of climate change and the protection of the environment. The discussion was hosted at the point where COP 27 had the Republic of China (Taiwan) as a pavilion partner.

While concluding, PM Dr Terrance Drew thanked the government of Taiwan for welcoming the delegation of St Kitts and Nevis and expressed gratitude for partnering with the nation at many crucial times. He also mentioned that he had invited the government of Taiwan to be present at the 40th Independence Day celebration of the Federation in 2023.
