Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: The Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Dr Terrance Drew attended the first consultative activity for the construction of the new climate-smart hospital at the JNF General Hospital. During the meeting, he shared his vision for the new climate-smart hospital and the need for developing healthcare sector in the country.

This Hospital Planning session is being conducted by the Ministry of Health of St Kitts in collaboration with the Taiwan-based Overseas Engineering and Construction Company (OECC). The primary motive of this session is to ensure the optimum healthcare facility for all the citizens of the island nation.

On Monday, 22nd July, 2024, the key personnels came together and held discussions on the requirements in the new climate smart hospital. The topics discussed in the session includes, Outpatient, Imaging, Emergency Services, Laboratory Services, Renal Care/Dialysis Services, Oncology/Haematology Services, Radiation Therapy Services and many others. All these topics were discussed with a vision to offer every possible amenity to the citizens of the island nation for their healthy lifestyle and well-being.

The Prime Minister also shared his views during the session and stated that it is their goal to create a state-of-the-art healthcare facility that not only meets the current needs of our citizens but also anticipates future healthcare challenges. He called this hospital to be a beacon of excellence and innovation in the Caribbean.

Moreover, PM Drew reinforced the need for a facility that could withstand powerful hurricanes, that would be technologically smart, that would be accredited and would deliver the highest possible level of care to people of St Kitts and Nevis.

For the same, he stated that the Ministry of Health and OECC are committed to engaging with stakeholders with a vision to gather comprehensive insights and recommendations about the newly climate-smart hospital.

The Prime Minister also mentioned that they have invested significantly in the present hospital and they will continue to do so in the future as well, ensuring operational efficiency and environmental sustainability to all the citizens in this new form of hospital.

The planning session for the new climate smart hospital will continue to take place throughout the week which will culminates in a detailed roadmap for the construction and operation of the hospital.
