PM Roosevelt Skerrit addresses Dominicans, shares update on International Airport

Roseau, Dominica: Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica – Dr Roosevelt Skerrit, hosted a press conference with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business, Trade and Energy – Vince Henderson on February 27, 2023 (Monday).

Prime Minister Skerrit welcomed the listeners and his colleague and addressed the concern related to the International Airport, which is under construction and thanked US Treasury Department for its contribution towards its construction. “Now, with the construction of the International Airport, we will continue to do what needs to be done to maintain our CBI programme’s integrity as well as to ensure its survival as a grouping the heads in collaboration with the US treasury Department, we will issue a communique shortly so that the public is informed of the outcome of the meeting they there are some six points which we discussed and are not at Liberty,” he informed.

He added that now to highlight those six points, as he said, Community will be issued this week within ourselves and the US, but they’re not points that Dominicans have any real concerns over, and he really wants to play some public record his personal appreciation to the US government in its constructive engagement of the government of Dominica, on the CBI programme. Further, he recalled, “Last year, I invited the US Department of Treasury to come into Dominica and to do their own examination of our CBI programme.”

Furthermore, he also addressed the public by praising Dominicans for the successful Carnival session. “To celebrate our country and its culture and to contribute in individual ways to the economy certainly they were from all reports thousands of Dominicans reside overseas were here.” He further congratulated the Carnival winners for winning the hearts of Dominicans.

In addition to this, he also wants to comment and thank all the Carnival patrons for their respect for Law and Order and for ensuring the government had a peaceful and incident-free Carnival. “It tells us that the no crime fight in our country really has to be a societal engagement, a societal response and not solely that of the police.”
