St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda: The PM of Antigua and Barbuda, Gaston Browne, handed over the keys of a two-bedroom home to a family of seven members under the Home Advancement Programme for the Indigent on Monday, 18th December 2023.

Notably, the programme’s main aim was to construct and repair low-income homes for the needy with the help of the government through their funding.

While handing over the keys, PM Browne stated that “he has grown up in the poorest of the poor community and as he is growing financially, it pains his heart to see that there are still few people who are living in poverty.”

PM Browne added that when we have the opportunity to help poverty-stricken people, it is the most gratifying experience. He expressed his happiness while handing over the keys to Ms Audii and her family on behalf of the government.

“The record of the government’s action in providing homes and helping the vulnerable in Antigua and Barbuda through the Home Advancement Programme for the Indigent is the representative of the heart and soul of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party administration” stated by PM Browne.

The Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda urged people to treat the poor well, as the greatness of any nation and its people is based on its generosity.

“Today, you are witnessing a tangible example of our charity in which we are helping one of the poorest families in the community to own a home”, added PM Browne.

It is to be noted that Browne’s administration recognized that it cannot be just left to the private sector to give assistance to the poor in the community.

He added that “the government of Antigua and Barbuda has to play a key role in ensuring that the families of the poorest do not fall through the cracks. Wherever there is any urgency, the government will step in to help the one in need.”

Moreover, the home and the furnishings provided by the government to the family of seven are valued at over $170,000 EC dollars.
