Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago: A pensioner was shot dead while three others were injured following a shooting in Morvant on Friday, December 1, 2023.

Notably, the deceased was identified as 71-year-old Wendell Stewart of De Nobriga Street, while the injured victims were recognized as 22-year-old Denesha Burginand and 21-year-old Nicholas Yearwood.

It is to be noted that at around 10:00 pm, Stewart was reportedly standing on a balcony with another man along Nine Stories in Morvant. In due course of time, a wagon approached them.

The backseat passenger then triggered multiple shots, hitting the deceased several times as well as Burginand and Earwood, who were struck by stray bullets.

As soon as the natives learnt about this incident, they informed the nearby police station, and the report was made to the officials and emergency health services.

It is to be added in the remarks of the officers that the trio were taken to the Port of Spain General Hospital, where Stewart was pronounced dead.

However, this is not the first time that such a case happened in Morvant. Notably, last month, the alleged body of a man was discovered and shot to death in Morvant on November 15, 2023.

A dead body was found four days after the residents informed police about the gunshots they heard. The residents detected a foul odour coming from the side of the road at around 12:00 pm on Sunday.

In the meantime, they contacted the nearby officials and informed them about the matter. It is to be noted that when a DMO visited the scene, he thoroughly viewed the body and declared the victim dead before ordering its removal.

Crime scene officials also paid their visit to the sight along with other officers, and they found three spent 40-calibre shells.

Both the man and the accused have yet to be identified as the investigation is still going on.
