Kingston, Jamaica: The utility provider in St Andrew and St Catherine will conduct well rehabilitation work on the Bybrook #4 Water Facility, which will result in water disruption in some communities from January 16 to February 6, 2024.
It is to be noted that the resident of the above-mentioned communities is advised to prepare their sources as the process will take three weeks of interruption of their water supply. The statement of the water supply problem was given through the notification from the commission.
Noting this, water is supposed to be trucked into some sections of St Catherine and St Andrew as they are expected to witness intermittent supply disruption or no water supply at all.
Some of the areas which are expected to be impacted are Sections of Spanish Town, Molynes Road, Spanish Town Road, Kent Village, Christian Gardens, Eltham Acres, Ensom Acres, Greendale, Newland Road, Washington Gardens, Breaton, Independent City, Cumberland and Christian Pen among others.
It added that the work related to the rehabilitation is required in order to guard the viability of the well and improve the overall efficiency of the water supply operations.
Importantly, the NWC (National Water Commission) ensures that an alternate water facility is provided to deal with this problem during the well rehabilitation work. They further stated that they are seeking to assure the public that they will use several measures to minimise any inconvenience to their usual water supply.
“During the period of work, it will be using an alternate water facility to ensure some level of supply to the impacted areas”, stated NWC.
These measures include,
– Arrangements for trucking to any customers situated at elevated sections
– Preparation of a temporary water supply schedule- as necessary
– Use of alternate sources for Portmore and sections of St Andrew
As per the National Water Commission, such activities are expected to extend the well infrastructure and also preserve water supply reliability heading into the traditional dry season.
