Vance Amory’s body reaches Nevis; funeral to take place on April 30

St Kitts and Nevis: Late former Premier of Nevis – Vance Winkworth Amory’s body, arrived at the Charlestown pier, Nevis, from St Kitts on April 22, 2022 (Friday). The body was escorted by the Premier of Nevis – Mark Brantley, and other Cabinet Members of Nevis Island Administration (NIA).
The former Premier’s body was transported to Nevis through a private vessel of the military of St Kitts and Nevis. The private vessel was accompanied by the two coastguard vessels on the seas. Upon arrival, the military escorted the casket, which was draped with the flag of St Kitts and Nevis.
The military was greeted by the wife of Vance Amory – Vernita and the NIA delegation. Following this, the casket was placed in a hearse and was taken to Elliott’s Funeral Home.
On April 2, 2022 (Wednesday), Vance Amory died at a hospital in London, United Kingdom. The former Premier’s body was returned to St Kitts on April 20 and laid in state for two days – Thursday and Friday, at the National Assembly Chambers, Government Headquarters in Basseterre.
During a special sitting of the NIA on April 19 (Tuesday), Premier Brantley paid respect and stated that Mr Amory’s profound impact on the people and island of Nevis, which he cherished, will never fade.
Premier of Nevis outlined, “He devoted much of his adult life to serving his country, his people and the principles for which it stands. A nation is not just about the flag, anthem and coat of arms – it is much more. It is also about our beliefs, aspirations, principles and values. Vance Amory understood this and exemplified it throughout his career and until his last breath.”
The Governor-General, SW Tapley Seaton, declared an Official Mourning Period in observance of Amory’s passing to run from April 20 to April 30, 2022.
The late former Premier will be afforded a state funeral at the Elquemedo Willett Park on Saturday, April 30, 2022, as per the government of Nevis.
