US: Youth & Sports Minister Jese Saukuru attends 2023 Economic and Social Youth Forum

United States: The Economic and Social Youth Forum is organised in the United States-based headquarters of the United Nations. Many leaders around the world attended the meet, among the Minister of Youth and Sports of Fiji was one.
According to the update by the government of Fiji, the Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru, participated at the 2023 Economic and Social- Youth Forum held at United Nations Headquarters in New York, United States, from 25th to 27th April 2023.
As the Minister responsible, Saukuru shared that youth are the Future Generation, and they are eager to be engaged at the local, national and global levels. “The Covid-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on the world, including on the progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outlined in the 2030 agenda. As we move towards recovery, it is important to prioritise the involvement of youth in the process,” he said.
The Fijian government stated that Minister Saukuru said despite the challenges of the pandemic, many young people have also found opportunities for growth and development. With much time spent at home, many have taken up new hobbies, learned new skills, and explored new interests. The pandemic has also spurred innovation and entrepreneurship among young people, with many starting their own businesses to develop new solutions to the challenges posed by the pandemic.
“Sports, on the other hand, has contributed immensely to this recovery in terms of boosting physical and mental health. Fiji witnessed an increase in physical activity through Sports,” he said.
Minister of Youth and Sports Jese Saukuru is accompanied by the Ministry of Youth and Sports Director Philip Hereniko for the Economic and Social – Youth Forum, which is held in New York from the 25th -27th of April 2023.
