UNICEF: Around 77 million students spent 18 months out of classrooms amid COVID outbreak

World: UNICEF has stated that around 77 Million students were kept out of class following the closure of schools amid the deadliest COVID-19 outbreak worldwide that led to the education crisis.

UNICEF, in its statement, cited that “117 million students, representing which represents 7.5 per cent of the total student population are affected by the closure of schools amid the pandemic.”

The total number of schools with partly open schools has declined from 52 to 41 over the same period.

On Thursday, the UN agency is closed down its social media for 18 hours to send one message to the world that is – #ReopenSchools for in-person learning as soon. “This generation of children and youth cannot afford any more disturbance in their education,” UNICEF emphasized.

UNICEF, in its statement, further noted that the right to go to school is fundamental for every child’s development; despite this, the schools remain to be closed in some nations across the globe while the parties or social gatherings are still going on.

UNESCO has released a new report, according to which 117 countries have opened the schools at the current time, with 539 million students getting back to the classrooms, which represents 35 % of the total world’s student population.

With its other partners, UNESCO has been working tirelessly to reopen the schools as the organization states that the previous two years have recorded high numbers of learning losses and increased drop-out rates among the students.

Many nations have started the COVID-19 vaccination drive for the students between the age group of 12-17 years so as they can reopen the schools. Generally, the Pzifer vaccine is suited for the students by the governments. While some nations are still operating online classes for the students.

Even many nations have made a consent form policy if the parents want their children to get vaccinated.
