Two killed, one injured in Nannyville shooting, curfew imposed

Kingston, Jamaica: The curfew has been imposed in sections of Nannyville in the St Andrew Central Division following a shooting incident, and it is likely to last for 48 hours. It is to be noted that the curfew began at 8:00 am on Sunday and will remain in effect until 8:00 am on Tuesday.
According to the reports, a series of shootings in the community resulted in the death of two persons and injured a policeman as well. Due to this, the authorities decided to impose a curfew in the region.
The boundaries of the curfew are,
- South: Areas along Nanny Boulevard from Mountain View Avenue
- North: The restricted places along Statue Road from Mountain View Avenue
- East: Along Mountain View Avenue from Nanny Boulevard to Statue Road
- West: Nearby regions of Statue Road from Nanny Boulevard
The police urged the public to follow the rules and regulations implemented by the authorities for smooth working and asked for public support to combat the crimes in the Federation.
“During the hours of the curfew, all persons within its boundaries are required to remain within their premises unless otherwise authorised by the ground commander”, added the police department.
The investigating officers conducted an anti-crime exercise to reduce the number of crimes sparked in the country. The investigation of the mentioned two murders is ongoing.
Moreover, last week, a 48-hour curfew was imposed in the community amidst the rising tensions that have resulted in infrequent shootings.
Additionally, the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) released its first crime report for the year 2024 on January 17, indicating that the nation has reported 33 murders in the first 13 days.
St James police division has issued a statement, mentioning that they have noted nine murders so far this year. This division led the country in murders for many good years, and according to them, they are reporting murder cases on every alternative day.
The authorities are expected to look into the matter strictly, and the public urged them to conduct an anti-crime operation to combat this serious problem.
