TTPS: Marijuana worth $10 million set on fire in Sangre Grande
TTPS destroyed over $10 million worth marijuana during an anti- gang operation in the Sangre Grande, including two grow houses equipped with solar panels, AC and water tanks.

Port of Spain: The officers of Trinidad and Tobago Police Services (TTPS) destroyed over $10 million worth of marijuana during an anti-gang operation in the Sangre Grande on Wednesday.
According to the reports, the TTPS officers executed the operation in the collaboration of various other units including, the Eastern Division Gang and Intelligence Unit (EDGIU) and the Eastern Division Task Force with the Region Two Gang Unit and the Air Support Unit.
During an exercise, officers went to the forest area near Upper Cunapo Road in Sangre Grande and after covering a distance of three miles, they found two camps that were equipped with solar panels, water tanks and air conditioning units, and several other amenities.
Following items were seized inside the camps,
- The investigating officers conducted a thorough search of the camps and they discovered approximately 111 kilograms of cured marijuana, which is said to have a street value of $3,333,341 in the international illegal market.
- In the second camp, they found 2,550 marijuana plants, which was weighed as equal to 255 kilograms. As per reports, it had an estimated street value of $7,632,405, and it was covered by three acres of land.
- They found two grow houses, which were outfitted with solar panels and air conditioning units.
It is to be noted that the law enforcement officers destroyed all the plants of marijuana and the two grow houses were also set on fire.
The reports further revealed that these exercises were a result of various leads into an organized operation of the criminal groups, who were basically operated in the areas of the Belmont district.
Additionally, the TTPS officers are focusing on conducting more anti-gang exercises in several regions of the country in order to combat the rising problem of marijuana. They are implementing every possible measure for the citizen’s security.
Also, the people are urged to not involve in consuming, importing or exporting marijuana as it poses several health issues and is strictly against the law of the land.
