Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago: Prime Minister of the twin-island of Trinidad and Tobago has recently expressed his disappointment towards the West Indies Men’s Cricket Team, following their recent defeat against Netherlands. He shared a social media post and expressed his love towards cricket game.
PM Rowley highlighted that he saw ‘the worst cricket match’ ever played by the team of West Indies. He further mentioned that this amateurish demoralizing embarrassment has to stop. Playing for West Indies requires a desire to fight, to believe, to win. To saunter through to defeat is unacceptable.
He further mentioned that playing for West Indies must be a treasured privilege available only to the best that are prepared to show character in defence of the legacy and pride for each and every individual.
“Those to whom these truths mean nothing must not be allowed out in West Indies colours,” he stated on his social media account.
He furthermore expressed that the stench of embarrassment didn’t start today it had a long gestation period in two decades of disappointment so those who were “expecting” should not come looking for any exemption here.
The cricket lovers from the region also raised voice and expressed their feelings through the comment section of the post shared by the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago.
One of the users named Pearl Dowlath remembered old West Indies team and commented, “Any one of you remember the confidence, determination and pride exhibited by Sirs Viv Richards, Gary Sobers and young Brian Lara as they walked out to the crease. Michael Holding and Andy Roberts were not afraid to stare down the best batsmen delivering balls that found the bails, stumps, or the eager hands of a waiting fieldsman. Even when it was time to bat, having distinguished themselves with ball, those “tail enders” stood their ground with the bat, and gave us a win. Today, the talent is still there. But that West Indian pride, determination and grit have disappeared. Maybe there are too many opportunities out there to play professional cricket for the highest bidder, and that is all that matters.”
Furthermore, another user named Wayne Worrell mentioned, “This is so true, I have been saying this for years, I am so frustrated I who once lived for no longer watch. Just can’t take the pain.” The third user named Clay Thomas wrote, “To say Caribbean people felt embarrassed by the team’s performance is an understatement. There must be accountability for this humiliation.”
