Team Demerara of Guyana claims inaugural title of Caribbean Airlines T10 Village Cricket Tournament

Guyana: Team Demerara Guyana won both their games in the regional final and claimed first-ever title of Caribbean Airlines T10 Village Cricket Tournament on 5^th May 2024 at the National Cricket Centre, Couva, Trinidad and Tobago.

The Caribbean Airlines hosted the Cricket tournament with a motive to celebrate the rich cultural heritage of the Caribbean nations through the spirit of cricket. By conducting such type of events, the airline focuses on fostering a sense of pride, promoting unity and brotherhood among the community teams.

The tournament was launched on 29^th March and Demerara, Guyana defeated both, South East of Trinidad and Tobago and St. Elizabeth of Jamaica to secure the title.

The Team Demera Guyana displayed their phenomenal game in both their matches. They played the first game of their regional final against the South East of Trinidad and Tobago. Guyana got a chance to bowl first and they finished the innings of their opponents with a score of 90 runs with 9 wickets down and in the second innings they chased the target and won the game by 3 wickets, scoring 91-7.

In the second game of the tournament, Guyana competed against St Elizabeth of Jamaica. They gave a target of 132 runs to their opponents and restricted them to 111 at a loss of 7 wickets, resulting in their victory by 21 runs to claim the title of the inaugural Caribbean Airlines T10 Village Cricket Tournament.

Dexter George won the Player of the Match award against South East, claiming 3 wickets by giving away only 10 runs. Meanwhile, Shemroy Barrington won the award against St. Elizabeth who played a crucial knock of 72 runs.

Moreover, Garvin Medera, the CEO of Caribbean Airlines extended congratulations to Team Demerara on winning the title. They also expressed gratitude to all the teams for their participation and invaluable contribution towards making the event successful.

He further added that the involvement of teams from Jamaica, Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago was a beautiful display of vibrant culture and traditions of culture through cricket. He also promised to host even bigger competition in the following year with a vision to open doors of several opportunities to showcase their skills, abilities and techniques.
