Superintendent of Police in St Kitts and Nevis urged citizens to obey nightly curfew

All citizens of St Kitts and Nevis were urged to follow the night curfews that were implemented on May 25. For the upcoming 2 weeks so that in this way, the spread of COVID-19 spread will decrease.

Superintendent of Police, Cromwell Henry, during the May 28 edition of the NEOC COVID-19 Press Briefing, said that from 11 p.m. nightly until 5 a.m. the following day until June 08, all persons have been required to be at their residence unless special permission has been granted by virtue of their employment as an essential worker or for medical or other emergencies or unless, of course, they had received permission in writing from the Commissioner of Police.

Superintendent of Police said, “Those persons who have received electronic curfew passes are reminded that these passes should only be used in the course of your duties and should not be abused. Any abuse of the permission will result in the revocation of the passes and possible arrest and prosecution. Similarly, persons found away from their residence during the curfew time without permission run the risk of being arrested. Regulation five of the regulations provides for severe penalties for breaches.”

He said that the persons who violate the rules regulation or fails to comply with the guidelines of COVID-19 would be fined but not more than $5000 and imprisonment.

Superintendent Henry reminded bar operators that during the hours of operation, they are to adhere to all health and safety rules outlined in the regulations, as well as appealed to them to close in time to allow workers and patrons to arrive at their residence before the curfew begins.

On 24 March 2020, 21 year old boy and a 57year old women who arrived in the federation from New York City were the first two confirmed cases of COVID-19. Both were nationals of St Kitts and Nevis.

St Kitts and Nevis have reported 68 cases of coronavirus with no death and out of which 45 recovered updates of 28th May 2021
