St Lucian Julien Alfred clinches 2023 Bowerman Award
Texas alumna Julien Alfred wins 2023 Bowerman Award, cements all-time sprinter status.

Castries, Saint Lucia: St Lucia’s Julien Alfred won the 2023 Bowerman Award in the most outstanding collegiate track and field athlete competition in the US.
Following the victory, the Prime Minister of Saint Lucia, Philip J Pierre congratulated to Julien Alfred on winning the 2023 Bowerman Award on Thursday night.
PM Pierre took to his official Facebook handle to express his delight for Alfred.
“Join me in congratulating Ms Julien Alfred on winning The Bowerman, the highest accolade bestowed to the year’s best student-athlete in the USA, collegiate track and field”, stated the Prime Minister.
The leader of Saint Lucia congratulated her for their exceptional performance throughout the year.
“You had a phenomenal year and continue to make us proud with your display of great sportsmanship, discipline and perseverance,” PM Pierre stated.
He further prayed for Alfred’s continued success and extended his best wishes for her forthcoming games.
It is to be noted that the athlete is a former Longhorns star.
About Julien Alfred
Julien Alfred is one of the greatest sprinters in Texas history. She holds school records in the 60-, 100- and 200-meter, with her 60-meter time of 6.97 seconds, an NCAA record.
Notably, she won Big 12 Athlete of the Year in July and was the leader of the Longhorns as they won their fifth outdoor track title in June.
It is to be noted that at the outdoor Championship, she secured gold medals in the 100- and 200-meter dashes as well as in the 400-meter relay and ran the lead leg for the 400-meter relay semi-finals.
Interestingly, she set the collegiate record with a time of 41:55 at the outdoor Championship.
Moreover, Alfred is also the Big 12’s indoor and outdoor performer of the year and the USTFCCCA’s national indoor and outdoor track athlete of the year.
Additionally, an athlete represented Saint Lucia and finished fifth and left behind renowned players such as,
– Ivory Coast’s Marie- Josee Ta Lou
– Jamaica’s Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce
– Shericka Jackson
– America’s Sha’Carri Richardson, a gold medallist
She finished fourth in the 200-meter dash.
