St Lucia: Prime Minister of St Lucia, Allen Chastanet stood in a line following all the guidelines of COVID-19 at local KFC in Vieux Fort to spread awareness related to the coronavirus pandemic as St Lucia faces a spike in positive cases in recent weeks.
Prime Minister giving a flag to follow COVID-19 guidelines gave a compelling caption to his Facebook photo caption, “Always remember to shop safely. Even when you’re hungry.”
To the date, more than 259 persons are affected by coronavirus pandemic, and two persons succumbed to the virus. The virus is not only leaving its impact on public health, but it is also giving a significant breakdown to the nation’s economy as the government is forced to shut down all the private businesses to curb the virus.
However, the plea made by Chastanet for Saint Lucians to assist the helpless in their midst comes at a time when the country keeps recording positive cases at an alarming pace, a spike that began in October.
“I keep telling there are people who are struggling, who cannot make ends satisfy, who aren’t making sufficient food, who are psychologically under stress, please help them, Chastanet said at a press briefing last Friday.
The circumstances confronting Saint Lucia, economically and health-wise, is severe. Last Saturday the Ministry of Health verified six new cases of COVID-19, two being non-nationals touring Saint Lucia. Diagnosed cases in the country at that time were at 252. However, this soon increased when on Sunday the Ministry reported five more cases driving the total to 257, a four-year-old being part of that count, with the districts of Gros Islet and Castries recording most of the positive cases. 2 more cases were recorded yesterday, taking the total to 259 with 126 currently active in the nation.
