St Kitts & Nevis: PM Harris highlights significance of Intl Day for Human Fraternity

Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis Dr Timothy Harris extended his wishes on the occasion of International Day of Human Fraternity on February 4, with its resolution 75/200.

PM Harris highlighted the key points of the resolution and tweeted, “The resolution is about underlining the importance of raising awareness about various religions, cultures or beliefs and the significance of education in the respect for religious, cultural diversity and promotion of tolerance.”

He further mentioned that “Encouraging activities aimed at promoting intercultural and interreligious dialogue to enhance peace and social stability, mutual respect, and respect for diversity.”

“Acknowledging that tolerance, mutual respect, pluralistic tradition, and the diversity of religions & beliefs promote human fraternity,” he added while emphasizing the resolution by the United Nations.

St Kitts and Nevis PM Harris further stated that he is proud to be a part of a society where people follow a variety of beliefs and cultures.

His message to his audience read, “These are the values that we subscribe to, and I am proud to be part of the society where persons of different beliefs and cultures live peaceably side by side.”

The International Day for Human Fraternity was designed by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in 1999; since then, it has been celebrated as a day for the international community and to promote culture and non-violence. According to the UN’s website, the day emphasizes the benefits of humanity.

It is essential to mark the celebration of this international day because of the increasing religious intolerance across the globe. The day is dedicated to the human fraternity and seeks to showcase how different cultures and religions enhance our lives.

The international day came into the force at the time when the world was dealing with various incidents of crimes against the religious minorities, from the Uighur Muslims in China to the Asians in the West.
