Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: Dr Terrance Drew, Prime Minister of St Kitts and Nevis, hosted a press conference with the Cabinet of the Federation on March 30, 2023, at NEMA. During this conference, PM Terrance Drew was accompanied by all Cabinet members.
In the midst of the conference, Minister of Foreign Affairs and former Prime Minister of the country, Dr Denzil L Douglas, stated that the new Ministry of Economic Development and Investment would fully contribute towards the economic growth of St Kitts and Nevis and will contribute in bringing relief by creating new opportunities to the general public.
Senior Minister Dr Douglas stated, “The Ministry is one which will bring the necessary support to these activities coming to the fore and thus bringing real relief and opportunities for our people. For example, we speak of housing for our people – if we do not bring in the investors or use the existing investors in our country, then that particular mandate is not fulfilled.”
He further said, “So, we have to make sure, therefore, that we can encourage people to invest in these various sectors in our country.”
Denzil Douglas, who also serves as the Minister of Economic Development and Investment, emphasised that all the new opportunities will reach out to the local, regional as well as international markets.
“We have to go far and wide and also within the region and even within the domestic country to ensure that there are investors who are being given the necessary support in terms of incentives in order to support the government’s overall strategy for the development of our country,” he asserted.
While concluding, senior minister Douglas outlined that the buildout of the new ministry is near finishing. He further noted that they were able to identify the important persons who would be charged with “rolling out the effectiveness of the ministry so that we would see opportunities, economic development, and investments in the country.”
